We are very pleased to announce that Christian Lyhne Ibsen has been appointed as the new head of FAOS. The hiring was done through internal recruitment, where the head of the Department of Sociology, Bjarke Oxlund, and the vice-dean of SAMF, Mads Jæger, interviewed candidates for the position. Employees at FAOS was also consulted in the process.

"We feel very confident handing over the reins of FAOS to Christian Lyhne Ibsen. We are certain that he is well prepared to take over the leadership and will be able to develop the research center further in the future," says outgoing Head of FAOS Søren Kaj Andersen.

Christian Lyhne Ibsen has a MSc in political science and a PhD in sociology from the University of Copenhagen. He has been affiliated with FAOS since 2008 and has also been a visiting researcher at MIT and Harvard and employed as an associate professor at Michigan State University at the School of Human Resources and Labor Relations. Christian returned to FAOS in 2021 after 3.5 years in the U.S.

When sharing the news to employees at FAOS and the Department of Sociology, Head of Department Bjarke Oxlund wrote: “Christian is a skilled labor market researcher who has a clear vision for how FAOS can develop into an even stronger center for international labor market research. Through conversations and interviews, Christian has shown a strong will to work with the development of FAOS in relation to external parties in the form of employer associations, trade unions and the Ministry of Employment and in relation to the integration with the Department of Sociology. Finally, Christian is fully dedicated to the development of FAOS as a workplace characterized by a good working environment with a focus on development for all.”

The formal change in management will take place on September 1st. Søren Kaj Andersen will continue as a researcher at FAOS, which is also the case for Mikkel Mailand, who steps down as Head of Research at FAOS at the same time.
