Coalitions and policy coordination - revision and impact of the European Employment Strategy
Monography by Mikkel Mailand (2006)
In the mid1990s, European member states decided to coordinate their national employment policies through a common European Employment Strategy (EES).
This book examines the current state of the strategy at EU-level as well as in the member states. The author argues that the strategy has to a varying degree influenced the member states' employment policies, but the impact has generally speaking been limited. At EU-level, the strategy faces difficulties, mainly because some member-states dislike close examination of their policies which highlights weaknesses and include country specific recommendations.
The monography is published by DJØF Publishing, 15 December, 2006.
